2026 Influenza and SARS-CoV-2 Molecular Diagnostic Workshop: Session 2 (588-518-26)

Starts:  Aug 27, 2026 12:00 PM (ET)
Ends:  Aug 28, 2026 12:00 PM (ET)

DESCRIPTION

This hands-on workshop covering the CDC Flu SC2 Multiplex Assay and the CDC Flu rRT-PCR Dx Panel for influenza detection and subtyping will feature both didactic lectures and laboratory exercises. The workshop will introduce the implementation of these assays on new diagnostic platforms as the use of the ABI 7500 Fast Dx is phased out. Aspects of testing using the ThermoFisher QuantStudio 5 Dx Real-time PCR system in conjunction with both built-in software and ThermoFisher’s Diomni software will be introduced. The training will also include broader discussions of influenza virus biology and seasonal trends, surveillance programs, the role of these assays in testing and reporting algorithms and updates on the regulatory status of these assays and validation of associated instrumentation.

AUDIENCE

This course is intended for intermediate-level public health laboratory professionals working at the bench in the molecular or virology laboratory who will perform influenza detection and subtyping using the CDC Flu SC2 Multiplex Assay and/or the CDC Flu rRT-PCR Dx Panel.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of the program, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe how testing with the CDC Flu SC2 Multiplex Assay and the CDC Flu rRT-PCR Dx Panel fit into the overall influenza testing and reporting algorithm
  • Explain all components (pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic) of CDC assays for influenza detection and subtyping
  • Describe the use of software associated with the QuantStudio 5 Dx in running influenza assays
  • Perform the CDC Flu SC2 Multiplex Assay and the CDC Flu rRT-PCR Dx Panel to detect and subtype influenza using appropriate biosafety procedures
  • Analyze data resulting from performance of these assays
  • Accurately interpret data resulting from performance of these assays
  • Summarize important regulatory updates for influenza diagnostics
