Hi APHL Public Health Lab Community,
ASTP released final USCDI V6 standard on 7/24. No urgent changes are needed by PHL systems in response to this new rule. As a reminder, health IT certification requires compliance with a minimum of USCDI V3 (as of calendar year 2026).
USCDI V6 can be accessed here: United States Core Data for Interoperability (USCDI) | Interoperability Standards Platform (ISP)
There are two changes that will impact lab data in USCDI V6:
* Unique Device Identifier will be modified to include non-implantable devices. Notably, UDI can be assigned for laboratory instrumentation under USCDI V6.
* LOINC is recognized as the applicable standard for Laboratory Orders.
APHL submitted recommendations to ASTP on the draft USCDI V6 this spring to modify several date/time stamps to better accommodate the needs of laboratory data. To read our full feedback, visit the APHL Informatics Policy Engagement space.
ASTP is accepting recommendations on data elements that should be included or modified as part of USCDI V7 until September 29, 2025; ASTP anticipates releasing the draft V7 in January 2026.
